Over the past several decades the world of design has evolved technologically as well as culturally. The one aspect of design that has remained true has been it's need to communicate a message to the outside world.
Graphic designers as well as printers learn a specific set of skills which enable them to produce high quality imagery which can captivate their audience. From designing something as small as a SkillsUSA pin, all the way up to a large scale billboard. The principals learned in our program will guide young designers to understand how to manipulate the various elements to suite the medium they are working in. Our program at OWTS prepares students with a solid foundation in both vector and raster based designing. Students learn various programs within the Adobe Creative Suite, as well as how to take their ideas and designs and see them through to their final state. Our Graphics department is equipped with the latest Adobe software, a state-of-the-art digital press, offset printing presses, wide format printers, a heat transfer press, and brand new silk screen equipment which conform to industry standards. We are a full production shop which takes in production orders from outside customers. Many times students are given the opportunity to work one-on-one with clients in order to determine what their job requires, ask important questions, and develop the much needed "soft-skills" that so many 21st century employers are looking for. Work based learning opportunities are available during the student's junior and senior year which allow them to get school credit while working at their (graphics related) job. There is more information regarding this on our main website. Regardless of a student's artistic ability, the graphics program at Oliver Wolcott Tech offers students the resources to learn a wide variety of skills in the area of design, graphic communication and printing. |
